Still have questions?  Here's answers to our most frequent bike rental questions:

    • The DIRO bike rental station is located on the corner of Myrtle St. and Water St. at the Water Street Inn in beautiful downtown Stillwater. We're just a block away from the historic lift bridge and across the street from Lucky's gas station.
    • Bikes are rented using an App on your phone. To get started, download the Movatic App from the Apple Store or Google Play store. Follow the prompts to register the App and locate the DIRO bike rental station on the corner of Myrtle St. and Water St. in downtown Stillwater. Make sure bluetooth is enabled and locations services are enabled for the Movatic App on your smartphone. Read and accept the waiver and add your credit card into the App. Use the App to choose a bike, and rent the bike (unlock it from the rack). When done using your bike, return it to an available spot at a bike station by pushing the lock on the front of the bike onto the pin on an available rack. Double check that the bike is indeed locked to the rack. Finally, use the Movatic App to end the rental by selecting the 'End Rental' button.
    • Bikes can be rented for $9 for the first hour and then $7 for each additional hour. Remember to end your rental within the Movatic App to stop additional rental charged from being accrued.
    • You need a smartphone with Location services and Bluetooth turned on. You will also need the Movatic App installed on your smartphone and a credit card. We recommend you wear a helmet but do not provide them and thus encourage you to bring your own.
    • No. You must have a smartphone that can install the Movatic App to use our bike rental station.
    • Bluetooth is how the phone communicates with the lock. If Bluetooth is turned off, the phone won’t be able to unlock the bike from the rack. Location services are used to identify your location relative to bike stations, and help you locate nearby bike stations.
    • You are responsible for the bicycle from the time you remove it from the rack until the bike is returned and locked to the rack. If the bike is damaged or stolen during your rental, you will be charged with the repair or replacement cost of the bicycle + shipping. We will charge your credit card for these charges and provide an emailed receipt outlining the charges for your records. The replacement cost of a bicycle fluctuates but is roughly $800-$900.
    • We appreciate you reporting any problems you experienced during your rental so we can take the appropriate steps to resolve them for you and/or others. To report a problem open the Movatic App and expand the menu in the upper left corner. You will then find an option to Report a Problem. Problems will go directly to the system administrator and all reports are handled promptly and taken seriously.
    • If you notice any issue with the bike that can affect the safety or performance of the bike, immediately return the bike to the rack and end the rental. You will not be charged if the bike is returned within the first 2 minutes of a rental. This gives you time to check the brakes and tires to make sure they are in working order. If you find an issue with a bike, we would appreciate if you would use the Problem Report function to notify us so we can put that bicycle into ‘maintenance’ so it cannot be used until it has been inspected and serviced.
    • When renting a bike, there are many inherit risks and financial responsibilities you are acknowledging or agreeing to. As a result, we want to ensure every rider has the opportunity to review these terms and conditions before beginning their ride. The only way to accomplish this is to only allow one rental per smartphone. As a result, each rider can only check out 1 bike per smartphone and each rider will need to download the App, accept the waiver for this system, and provide a credit card. We are working with Movatic to design a workflow that will allow the renting of multiple bikes from a single phone.

    • We apologize if this happened to you. First check your phone to confirm that the Location Services and Bluetooth are turned on. If the Movatic App was recently installed or updated on your phone, we recommend closing and restarting the App. It may also be necessary in some circumstances to turn your phone off/on again and restarting the App. If after trying these techniques the bicycle still will not unlock, please submit a Problem Report through the Movatic App. Please describe where the App stopped/ended, or where it gave you an error message. If possible, please include the make/model of your phone, the operating system version you are using.

    • The locking function to the rack is mechanical, not electronic, so there should be no reason the bike will not lock to the rack. If you are having difficulty getting the lock to secure onto the rack, you may need to push the bike/lock further onto the rack pin, or adjust the angle of the lock to align the hole in the front of the lock with the pin on the rack.

    • If bicycles are at the station but not available for rent, these bicycles may be in ‘Maintenance’ waiting for service, or they could have been returned by a prior rider but they failed to end the rental in the App so the system still considers this bike in an active rental.
    • The system accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
    • The rear basket was designed for up to 25 pounds of gear. If loading the basket, be sure to spread the weight out as evenly as possible so as not to affect the balance of the bike. Also be sure to keep the bike as upright as possible so items in the basket do not fall out. Note that the baskets do not include straps or netting, so contents put the basket are done so at the rider’s responsibility.
    • We’re sorry to hear this. The bicycles are designed to minimize points of failure. For instance, we use puncture-resistant tires and specially designed internal gearing for increased bicycle reliability and durability. If you experienced a problem with the bike and are unable to rider it, please roll the bicycle back to the bike station from where it was rented, end your rental, and submit a problem report to the system administrator. The system administrator will issue a refund as appropriate and contact you if they have any questions.
    • No, we strongly discourage you from doing this. First, while the bicycle is checked out with your phone, it is your responsibility. Any damage or loss of the bicycle is your responsibility whether it is your fault or not. Also, each rider of the bicycles of this system need to sign the waiver. If this rider does not sign the waiver prior to riding, and is injured while riding, you as the individual may be held liable for these injuries and related expenses.
