  • Activity Assistant
  • Acitivity Lead

Available Position: Activity Assistant

Hourly Pay Rate: $10/hour

Commitment: 20-40 hours/month (approx.)

Please Note: Scheduled available hours are based on scheduled activities. Actual available hours may differ based on actual bookings. If there are no bookings, there are no available hours. We will know the evening before the event.

Work Schedule: We have year round and seasonal positions to meet customer demand.  Please let us know what you are interested in when applying.

Description

We currently are looking to fill a part-time Activity Assistant position at DIRO Outdoors. The Activity Assistant works closely with the Activity Lead to greet/check-in customers, outfit customers with onsite rental equipment and ensure customers are safe while using our equipment. For guided tours, the Activity Assistant will work closely with a tour guide to take customers on guided tours. Other duties include lifting, loading, unloading and cleaning kayaks, paddle boards, snowshoes and/or fat tire bikes. 

Job Duties:

  • Arrive on time and prepare gear and the work station for customer check-ins
  • Greet & check-in customers by matching customers to their online booking reservation and ensure waivers are signed
  • Outfit customers with size appropriate equipment (i.e. PFDs, paddles, bike helmets, snowshoes)
  • Perform a pre-activity “safety talk” which gives customers basic orientation to equipment handling and what to do in case of emergency
  • Ensure customers are safe while using equipment by keeping a “big eye” on the customers, the weather conditions and other factors which could effect customer’s safety (i.e. boat traffic on the water)
  • Monitor time and ensure activities stay on schedule
  • Keep work station tidy and organized
  • Implement safety procedures instruction from Activity Lead in case of emergency.
  • Clean gear and check gear for damage and report if necessary
  • Load/unload gear and supplies
  • For guided tours or birthday parties, help manage groups on water or on trail

Training will be provided to all new DIRO Outdoors employees:

  • CPR & First Aid Training
  • Safety & Rescue Training

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to recognize problems and adjust quickly and appropriately
  • Experience with paddling and biking basics (i.e. basic stroke mechanics, trail riding and/or group formation)
  • A desire to learn about the activities we provide and continually improve on the skills necessary to be proficient and a mentor to others

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience renting equipment to customers
  • ACA kayaking certifications recommended but not required

The Activity Lead is responsible for running and leading our activities or tours.  They work closely with the Activity Assistant to greet/check-in customers, outfit customers with onsite rental equipment and ensure customers are safe while using our equipment. The Activity Lead will ensure the activity team is utilizing best practices within the company’s group management procedure. The Activity Lead will also be responsible to execute the company’s emergency response plan when an emergency occurs. Other duties include lifting, loading, unloading and cleaning kayaks, paddle boards and/or fat tire bikes and reporting damaged equipment so it can get fixed or replaced.

Training will be provided to all new DIRO Outdoors employees:

  • CPR & First Aid Training
  • Safety & Rescue Training
